Base Conversion FunctionBinary , Octal, and Hexadecimal numbers are common to most digital systems and computers. Binary numbers can easily be grouped as Octal or Hexadecimal. Many 1970 vintage computers grouped individual switches and LED's in groups of three so that they could be perceived as octal by the eye. Then octal data entry could be performed with three fingers. Converting to decimal is more difficult. Binary numbers must first be converted to Binary Coded Decimal, BCD, before being displayed as decimal.
