James Watt Steam Engine In 1763 Watt was sent a Newcomen steam engine to repair. While putting it back into working order, Watt discovered how he could make the engine more efficient. Watt worked on the idea for several months and eventually produced a steam engine that cooled the used steam in a condenser separate from the main cylinder.
"In 1769 James Watt perfected the Newcomen device and patented the first efficient steam engine. This was the start of the steam engine, which after several designs lead to the birth of Stephenson's Rocket, considered the first locomotive in history. The Stephenson Rocket, weighed in at a mere 4.7 tons and could operate at a speed of 29 mph under full load. Then in 1825, the first public railroad using steam was completed in England" from Steamer.
